For
those of you who attended GCCC through this past election (2012), I need not
tell you that I showed this President, Barak Obama, upmost respect – and I will
continue to do so. I pray for him EVERY Monday
– Saturday. My prayer is specific, that
he would “govern in righteousness and walk in the fear of the LORD,” which is
the beginning of wisdom. I also have
rebuked those who have written and spoken disrespectfully of him.
With
that said, as believers we must “obey God rather than men.” What do I mean by that? We can respect a person and their position of
authority, but not approve of what they do.
e.g.: Daniel showed great respect to Nebuchadnezzar, addressing him with
these words: “My lord, if only the dream
applied to your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries! … Therefore, O
king, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right,
and your wickedness …” (Daniel 4).
I
admire this President’s concern for the less fortunate and believe it is that
of our Heavenly Father. However, I also
believe that he errs greatly in
endorsing and approving of homosexuality and abortion. His recent endorsements of Planned Parenthood
and Same Sex Marriage are in direct opposition to God’s heart and His
word. It’s a scary thing to approve of
and endorse sin, and that is what abortion and homosexuality is – sin.
I
am not saying that any of us are without sin; certainly I am not without
sin. However, it is one thing to
struggle with sin knowing that it is wrong and seeking to put it away, it’s still
another thing to justify, endorse and approve of sin. We are, as Christ followers, called to love
the sinner and hate sin. We can respect
and love a person without approving of their sinful behavior. When this Presidency approves and legislates
morality, more specifically sin, it opens the door and leads the way for
wickedness to reign supreme. Scripture
says, “When the wicked take charge,
people go into hiding. When the wicked meet disaster, the godly flourish” (Proverbs
28:28). By licensing
sin, this administration gives rise
to ungodly behavior, which brings disgrace and ultimately ruin.
God's word tells us, “Doing what is right makes a nation great, but
sin will bring disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34 ).
Please pray that our
President and our Congressional leaders (both House and Senate) will have a change of
heart in these matters that God calls sin. Let's stand upon this prayer-promise that has no
dispensation limiting it: ”If My people,
who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and
turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive
their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Many thanks for the call to prayer! Very timely, considering next week's National Day of Prayer.
