Upfront, what I’m about to write will most likely find opposition even within the choir (and I am preaching to the choir). This is not about political party, race, color, language, economic strata, geography, male or female, slave or free, or whatever other “label” you may want to put on it. It’s about our freedom as Christians in the free world and in Christ. The Bible tells us we are “neither Jew or Gentile, male or female, slave or free in Christ but one.” Galatians 3:28
As I have listened intently, and carefully, to the candidates for the upcoming election, and the respective responses from the populace and news analysts, as well as religious leaders, OR LACK THEREOF, I am more aware than ever of what could be the end of the Christian’s religious freedoms as we know it.
What scares me most is the SILENCE of mega church leaders to whom God has given a platform and don’t use it. As Mordecai said to Esther, “for such a time as this.” No matter what our President , or any other present day leader wants us to believe, this Nation was clearly founded on Christian beliefs. I am not saying everything done in the name of Christianity was / is Christian. However, the underlying foundation of our believe system as a nation was, and still is – although daily being eroded – the Word of God.
God’s definition of “marriage” (man and a woman), the "sanctity of life" (life begins at conception), equal treatment of rich and poor in taxation, the privilege of the citizen and fair treatment of the ‘alien’, the Islamic religion is no friend to Christianity, reward the contributor and penalize the taker, and the list goes on, are all wonderful liberties founded in Christianity.
Now, here’s the CONTEMPORARY world in which we live: Stand up for your right as a Christian that opposes same sex marriage (not the people who marry – there is a difference) and call it what it is, SIN, and you’re a “hater” (which is the furthest thing from the truth). The truth is you love that person more than they do themselves because you’re concerned about the eternal destiny of their souls. Call abortion what is, MURDER, and you’re infringing on a person’s rights, old school and non-progressive. I wonder, then, what this thinking calls God, because He’s the one who has set down the rights and wrongs, the life and death, guidelines (laws).
Mark my words, no mark God’s words, if this does not turn around, and quickly, we who hold on to God’s word as our “final authority” and seek to live by it, will lose our freedom of speech and "be shoved into a closet." (Proverbs 28:28)
This is a call to all who profess to be Christians: Are you gonna stand up, speak out and take action, because if we don’t … one day the freedom to do so will be gone.
